Nagarik App Citizenship Not Verified: Causes and Safe Fixes
A safe troubleshooting guide for Nagarik App citizenship verification: separate account and OTP failures from citizenship matching, copy source fields exactly, fix the responsible record, and use official support without exposing identity data.
Independent guide, not an official website
Nepal Docs Guide is not affiliated with the Government of Nepal. This guide helps you prepare, but official portals and offices control final rules, fees, forms, and timelines.
Quick answer
Start by identifying the failing stage. If registration or OTP fails, use a mobile SIM registered in your own name and compare the telecom KYC details with citizenship. If the app accepts login but cannot verify citizenship, copy the citizenship name, issuing district, issue date, date of birth and certificate number exactly, including any dash or slash. A current District Administration Office FAQ also warns that after a married person's citizenship is amended, the original issuing district remains the issuing district; do not replace it with a spouse's district or current address. Update only from the Government of Nepal app listing, save the exact error and time, and retry once after checking the fields. If the record still fails, contact Nagarik App support and follow its direction to the telecom or citizenship-record office. Never send an OTP or full citizenship image to an unofficial helper.
Eligibility
- A Nagarik App user whose citizenship cannot be added, matched or verified
- A user who can access the mobile number and SIM used for the account and can compare it with the citizenship record
- A user seeing a details-do-not-match, document-not-found or similar response after entering citizenship fields
- This guide is not for a missing OTP alone, a forgotten password, a missing driving licence or PAN service, or a National ID correction; those are different failure stages and records
- Only the official app, its support team, the telecom responsible for SIM KYC and the citizenship-record authority can confirm the actual backend cause
Required documents checklist
- □ The original citizenship certificate, kept private and used to copy the printed fields exactly
- □ The active mobile SIM used for Nagarik App and access to its OTP; the current official DAO FAQ says the SIM must be in the user's own name
- □ The citizenship full name, issuing district, issue date, date of birth and certificate number, including punctuation such as dash or slash
- □ The telecom subscriber or KYC details available through the operator's official channel if the login identity appears not to match
- □ The current official Nagarik App installed from the Government of Nepal listing, with the device operating system and network noted
- □ The exact error text, affected step, date and time, and an optional masked screenshot that does not reveal the full certificate, OTP or account secret
- □ Any corrected citizenship or official record-update acknowledgement if the source record was amended
- □ A support case number or email thread for follow-up; do not publish it with identity data
Step-by-step process
- Stop repeated guesses and identify the failing stage: account registration, OTP delivery, citizenship entry, citizenship match, or a later service. Fix only that stage.
- Confirm the app is the Government of Nepal Nagarik App and install the current update from the official store. The official Play listing was updated on 24 August 2026; do not use an APK from a message or search advertisement.
- If registration or login fails, confirm that the active SIM is registered in your own name. The current Syangja District Administration Office FAQ says the citizenship identity and the details used for the telecom subscriber record must match.
- Compare the telecom KYC and citizenship source fields without posting either record online. Pay particular attention to full name and surname changes. Ask the telecom's official support to correct its subscriber record if that is the record that is wrong.
- For citizenship verification, copy the certificate number exactly, including dash, slash or other printed punctuation. Do not silently remove a character because another form usually does.
- Enter the issuing district shown by the citizenship record, not the current district or permanent address. The Syangja FAQ says a married woman whose citizenship was amended after marriage should still use the original maternal-side issuing district.
- Copy the citizenship issue date, date of birth and name spelling from the correct source record and use the date system and field labels shown by the current app. Do not convert dates from memory or test several spellings.
- Use a stable connection, close and reopen the official app, and retry once after the field review. If many users or services appear unavailable, wait and use the official support channel rather than changing correct identity data.
- Record the exact message, step and time. If a screenshot is useful, mask the citizenship number, date of birth, QR or barcode, mobile number and any account identifiers before sharing it through an official support channel.
- Contact Nagarik App support at the current official channels. The app site lists toll-free 1101 and helpdesk@nagarikapp.gov.np; the Government of Nepal Play listing also publishes support@nagarikapp.gov.np.
- Follow the support team's diagnosis. A SIM-KYC mismatch belongs with the telecom. A missing, old or incorrect citizenship source record may require the issuing District Administration Office or its citizenship-record branch; current DAO reports explicitly track Nagarik App-related citizenship-detail updates.
- After an official record correction, keep the acknowledgement and allow the responsible system time to synchronize. Retry with the unchanged correct fields. Do not create a second Nagarik App identity or pay an agent to force verification.
Fees and timelines
- The official Nagarik App support contacts do not publish a troubleshooting charge. Do not pay an unofficial helper to verify citizenship, obtain an OTP or access a government database.
- No reviewed primary source guarantees a support-response or backend-synchronization time. A current app or network issue and a citizenship-record update can take very different paths.
- A telecom KYC correction or citizenship-record amendment is a separate official service and may have its own identity checks, office process and current fee.
- The Government of Nepal Play listing can change the app update date and release notes. Use the live listing rather than a version number copied from this guide.
- Keep any official receipt or acknowledgement for a source-record correction; a successful app retry is not a substitute for proof that the controlling record changed.
Common mistakes
- Treating an OTP problem as a citizenship-record problem
- Using a SIM registered to a relative when the official FAQ requires the user's own-name SIM
- Entering the current district instead of the citizenship issuing district
- Dropping a dash or slash from the citizenship number
- Guessing an English spelling or date conversion instead of copying the source field
- Changing several correct fields at once after one vague error
- Creating another account before support checks the first identity
- Installing an unofficial APK or giving remote-control access to a helper
- Sending a full citizenship image, OTP, password or unmasked screenshot through social media
- Assuming app support can directly rewrite telecom KYC or the issuing office's citizenship record
- Retrying immediately after an official correction without allowing for synchronization
- Paying an agent who promises instant verification or database access
Route the error to the right owner
| Where it fails | Check first | Likely official owner |
|---|---|---|
| No OTP or account registration | Active own-name SIM, exact subscriber identity and current app | Nagarik App support or the telecom, depending on diagnosis |
| Citizenship details do not match | Name, issuing district, issue date, birth date, number and punctuation | Nagarik App support; issuing DAO if the source citizenship record is missing or wrong |
| Document not found after correct entry | Exact fields, current service availability and one controlled retry | Nagarik App support, then the record-owning office it identifies |
| Citizenship was recently corrected | Official acknowledgement and unchanged corrected fields | Issuing office and Nagarik App support for synchronization |
| Another service is missing | Whether citizenship is already verified and which service record is absent | The owner of that service, not a new citizenship-verification attempt |
Do not mix source records
| Field | Copy it from | Common wrong substitute |
|---|---|---|
| Mobile subscriber name | The telecom's official KYC record | A family member's name or the phone user's nickname |
| Citizenship name | The valid citizenship record | Passport, social profile or a guessed English spelling |
| Issuing district | The district that issued the citizenship | Current address, spouse's district or migration destination |
| Issue date | The citizenship issue-date field | Birth date or an approximate conversion |
| Certificate number | Every printed digit and punctuation mark | A reformatted number with dash or slash removed |
Current official guidance is more specific than generic troubleshooting
The Syangja District Administration Office guidance published in August 2026 requires an own-name SIM, matching telecom and citizenship identity details, the original issuing district after a marriage-related amendment, careful name spelling and every dash or slash in the citizenship number. These checks replace the old guide's unsupported guesswork.
