How to Correct National ID Details in Nepal

Eligibility

• A person whose printed National ID card contains a wrong demographic detail and who needs the official card-correction or change route
• A National ID holder who needs to request an update to additional details through the official Schedule 13 application
• An applicant whose National ID and citizenship, passport, bank or another service record do not match
• This guide does not create a new National ID enrollment or replace a merely lost card; first-time enrollment and card reprint are separate services
• The requested value must be supported by the government source record or other proof accepted by the responsible office

Required documents checklist

Step-by-step process

1. Place the National ID record beside citizenship and the other controlling documents. Check the Nepali and English name, date of birth, sex, citizenship number and type, parents, spouse, permanent and current address, and any other field that affects the next service.
2. Identify which source is wrong. If citizenship contains the wrong surname, birth detail, citizenship number or another core value, ask the issuing administration office to correct that record first. The Department's FAQ specifically says citizenship must first be amended before adding a spouse's surname that is absent from citizenship.
3. Choose the correct request. The official card-change form is for correcting details and obtaining a new National ID card. The separate Schedule 13 form requests an update to additional details. First-time pre-enrollment, a card-status check and a reprint of a lost or damaged card are different routes.
4. Download the relevant official form from DONIDCR or the Ministry of Home Affairs administration-office page, or obtain the current version at the responsible counter. Do not use an agent-created form with a look-alike logo.
5. Build a compact evidence pack for the exact fields being changed. For an address different from citizenship, the Department FAQ names a migration certificate or residence-verification document, while an address changed only by local restructuring may be handled differently. Do not assume that one document proves every field.
6. Contact the National ID counter at the responsible District Administration Office, Area Administration Office or other office directed by DONIDCR. Ask where this correction type is accepted, whether an appointment or biometric recapture is required, which originals and copies to bring, and whether the office currently collects any official amount.
7. Present the originals for verification and submit only through the confirmed official route. Review every field on the application before signing. Give biometrics again only when the authorized counter requires them for the correction.
8. Keep the stamped acknowledgement, receipt, application or reference number and the name of the receiving office. Write down the date and the exact correction requested without photographing other applicants' records.
9. Use the office's stated follow-up channel. If the record remains unchanged, return with the acknowledgement rather than starting another enrollment or paying an unofficial intermediary.
10. When the corrected record or replacement card is available, compare it again with citizenship and the submitted proof. Only then use it for a passport, bank, SIM or other identity-linked service, and correct any dependent service separately if it cached the old value.

Fees and timelines

• The reviewed DONIDCR and Ministry of Home Affairs pages provide the correction and update forms but do not publish one nationwide correction or replacement-card amount. Confirm the official amount, if any, for the selected route at the responsible counter and obtain a government receipt.
• No reviewed source guarantees one completion period for every correction. A simple additional-detail update, a source-record amendment and production of a replacement card can follow different verification paths.
• Correcting citizenship, migration, marriage or another source record is a separate service and may have its own documents, office time and official charge.
• The DONIDCR pre-enrollment system is for entering demographic data and booking biometric capture; its availability does not prove that an existing-card correction was submitted online.
• Do not pay an agent for a promise of instant correction, an early card or access to the Department database. Pay only through the channel named by the responsible office and keep the receipt.

Common mistakes

• Requesting a National ID change while the citizenship or other controlling record still carries the unwanted value
• Using the additional-details form for a wrong printed card, or using the card-change form for a different service without confirming the route
• Submitting a photocopy, damaged record or self-edited certificate as the only proof
• Assuming first-time pre-enrollment, card reprint, status checking and correction are the same online service
• Changing only the English spelling without checking the Nepali name and the source record
• Accepting a corrected screen or SMS without checking the final card or official record
• Sharing the NIN, citizenship image, OTP or portal credentials with an unofficial agent
• Paying twice because the first office did not give a reference or receipt
• Using the uncorrected NID for a passport or bank process and creating another mismatch
