Independent guide, not an official website

Nepal Docs Guide is not affiliated with the Government of Nepal. This guide helps you prepare, but official portals and offices control final rules, fees, forms, and timelines.

Quick answer

Open the official Nagarik App citizen web portal and use its current “Forgot your password?” option instead of creating a second identity or using an unofficial reset link. Keep the registered mobile number under your control, follow only the prompts shown by the official portal, and set a new private password. If recovery fails, use Nagarik App's official contact page, FAQ or toll-free 1101. This guide covers web-password recovery only; missing mobile OTP, SIM ownership or mobile-number mismatch, citizenship verification and a service record not appearing are separate problems.

Eligibility

  • A Nagarik App user who cannot remember or use the citizen web portal password
  • A user who can access the registered mobile number or recovery channel requested by the official portal
  • A user who is on the official web.nagarikapp.gov.np or nagarikapp.gov.np domain
  • This guide does not correct citizenship, SIM ownership, phone-number or service-record mismatches

Required documents checklist

  • Registered mobile number entered exactly as held by the account
  • Access to the phone or recovery channel requested by the official portal
  • A secure device and current browser
  • A new unique password stored privately
  • Screenshot of a non-sensitive error message if official support is needed
  • Account details sufficient for support to locate the problem, without sending a password or OTP

Step-by-step process

  1. Open the official Nagarik App citizen login page and check that the address uses web.nagarikapp.gov.np.
  2. Try the known mobile number and password once carefully. Check keyboard language, capitalization and saved-password autofill.
  3. Select the portal's current “Forgot your password?” option. Do not follow a reset link received from an unknown message or search advertisement.
  4. Enter only the identifier requested by the official recovery screen, using the mobile number registered with the account.
  5. Complete the official verification prompt. Keep every OTP or recovery code private and enter it only on the official domain.
  6. Create a strong new password that is not reused for email, banking, MeroShare or another government portal.
  7. Sign in again through the official citizen login page. Close old sessions if the service offers that option.
  8. If the portal says the account or mobile number is not found, stop repeated attempts and identify whether the real problem is registration or a mobile-number mismatch.
  9. If verification never arrives or the reset fails, capture only the error text and time, then use the official contact page, FAQ or toll-free 1101.
  10. Never send the old or new password, OTP, citizenship scan or full identity record to an unofficial helper.

Fees and timelines

  • The official password-recovery entry point reviewed on 6 September 2026 does not display a reset fee.
  • No guaranteed recovery time is published; automated recovery can be quick, while identity or contact mismatches may require support.
  • Repeated attempts can make diagnosis harder. Pause and contact official support when the portal consistently rejects the registered details.
  • Do not pay an agent for a password reset or remote access to your phone.

Common mistakes

  • Using the mobile app's OTP troubleshooting steps for a web-password problem
  • Opening a lookalike login or reset page from a message or advertisement
  • Trying a family member's phone number instead of the registered account number
  • Reusing a banking, email or MeroShare password
  • Sharing an OTP, recovery code or screen-control access
  • Creating a second account before support explains the original mismatch
  • Sending citizenship images when support has not requested them through a secure official channel
  • Treating a missing service record as a password failure
  • Taking screenshots that expose the full mobile number, password or OTP
