Required documents checklist

Step-by-step process
- Open swc.org.np or www.swc.org.np directly and confirm the Social Welfare Council identity. Do not begin from an organization's private link or a copied directory.
- Write down the exact legal name, abbreviation, organization type and claimed SWC affiliation number. A campaign, project or social-media brand may not be the registered organization.
- Use SWC's official IPACT transparency interface at ipact.swc.org.np when it is available. Search the complete name and likely abbreviation, then open the relevant organization or project result rather than relying on a search-card headline.
- Compare the result with the organization's affiliation certificate, local registration record, proposal, vacancy, agreement and receipt. Record spelling, status or period, address, sector and project information only when the official source actually displays it.
- Separate the legal layers. A Nepal NGO's local registration is not the same record as SWC affiliation; an INGO arrangement is not the same as a local NGO registration; and an affiliation record is not automatically a current project approval.
- For a claimed project, compare the project name, responsible organization, donor, sector, geographic area, approved or operating period and financial claim with the official information that is actually available.
- Check current SWC notices, organization or INGO lists and guidance where relevant. Older fiscal-year lists are historical evidence and should not be presented as proof of current status.
- Verify the payment or donation recipient separately. Ask the organization to explain in writing why a bank account, wallet or QR belongs to the legal organization or an authorized project; do not treat SWC affiliation as bank-account authentication.
- If the search is unavailable, returns zero statistics, omits the organization or contains stale-looking information, do not conclude that the organization is fake. Contact SWC's coordination or monitoring route and the original registering authority with the exact name and reference.
- Before a material donation, partnership, employment decision or data transfer, document the official result, unresolved limits and direct confirmations. Recheck close to the transaction because affiliation, renewal, project and contact information can change.
Fees and timelines
- The SWC public website and IPACT pages reviewed on August 5, 2026 did not display a fee for reading the public organization or project information.
- SWC does not publish one guaranteed time for a public verification. Search availability, spelling, older records and the need to contact different authorities can extend the check.
- The IPACT interface reviewed for this guide advertised organization and project search, but some live statistics could fail to load. Treat availability and result completeness as a limitation, not as evidence about a particular organization.
- Affiliation, renewal, project approval, agreement, monitoring and local registration can have different dates. Record the exact period supported by each document instead of describing an organization as permanently approved.
- A public result does not establish a donation's tax treatment, a project's entire budget, the accuracy of every report or the authority of an individual fundraiser. Those require separate evidence.
- If formal written verification is needed for procurement, employment, a grant, litigation or a large transfer, ask the responsible authority what request, evidence, fee and processing time currently apply; do not infer them from the free public search.
Common mistakes
- Searching a campaign or acronym while the official record uses a different legal name
- Assuming local NGO registration and SWC affiliation are the same approval
- Treating an old affiliation or fiscal-year list as proof of current renewal
- Assuming an organization result automatically validates every project it advertises
- Assuming a project entry proves that every donation request, employee or field office is authorized
- Calling an organization fake because a public search is temporarily unavailable or incomplete
- Trusting a certificate image without checking its legal name, number, issuing authority and period
- Paying a personal account or QR merely because the fundraiser uses a real NGO's name and logo
- Sharing citizenship, health, beneficiary, banking or children's information before confirming the organization and purpose
- Treating social-media followers, international branding or a famous donor logo as official status evidence
- Ignoring differences between the legal organization, implementing partner, donor and project brand
- Failing to preserve the proposal, appeal, vacancy, receipt and verification date when a complaint or correction may be needed

A real NGO name can be used in a fake appeal
A scammer can copy a genuine organization's name, project photos, donor logo and old certificate. Open official sources independently, contact the organization through a separately obtained channel, verify the specific project and confirm the payment recipient before donating or sharing personal records.
If no organization or project result appears
Treat a no-result as an unresolved lead, not a final verdict.

NGO and INGO work can involve citizenship records, health information, disability details, financial hardship, children's data, photographs and location information.
