Independent guide, not an official website

Quick answer

Open the Inland Revenue Department's official PAN Number Search, enter the PAN exactly as printed on the PAN card, invoice, contract or registration document, and compare only the fields IRD returns. The public form reviewed on August 2, 2026 asks for the PAN itself; it is not a public search by name, mobile number or citizenship number. A matching result confirms an IRD record at the time of lookup, but it does not by itself prove complete tax compliance, company status, licence validity, invoice authenticity or authority to receive payment.

Eligibility

  • A person checking a PAN already shown on a PAN card, tax invoice, quotation, contract, registration document or other business record
  • A buyer, client, employer, accountant or organization that needs a basic official-record comparison before a transaction
  • A PAN holder checking whether the public result matches the legal name and other information currently returned by IRD
  • A person verifying a tax-clearance certificate who also has the PAN, fiscal year and certificate number required by IRD's separate search
  • A user who understands that public PAN search is a limited record check and not complete tax, company, licence, ownership or payment due diligence

Required documents checklist

  • The PAN exactly as printed on the document being checked
  • The PAN card, tax invoice, quotation, contract or registration record to compare with the official result
  • The taxpayer's claimed legal name and business or organization name where applicable
  • The claimed address, transaction purpose and date of verification for your own comparison record
  • For tax-clearance verification: the PAN, fiscal year and certificate number printed on the certificate
  • For wider business due diligence: separate company or firm registration, current licence, authorized-person and payment-account evidence as appropriate
  • No citizenship upload, OTP, taxpayer password, bank password or remote-access application is required for the reviewed public PAN-search form

Step-by-step process

  1. Read the PAN directly from the original card, invoice, quotation, contract or registration document. Do not rely on a number retyped in a chat message when the source document is available.
  2. Open https://ird.gov.np/pan-search/ by typing or checking the official ird.gov.np domain. Avoid sponsored look-alike pages and unofficial forms.
  3. Enter the PAN exactly, without changing digits or adding another person's private identity information.
  4. Select Search and wait for the official page to return the available taxpayer record.
  5. Compare the legal or taxpayer name, business name, address and any registration information that IRD actually displays with the document in front of you.
  6. Record the lookup date and the specific fields compared. Repeat the official search instead of relying only on an old screenshot.
  7. If a tax-clearance certificate is being checked, open IRD's separate Tax Clearance Search and enter the PAN, fiscal year and certificate number printed on that certificate.
  8. If a material field differs or no result appears, stop the transaction or invoice-processing step that depends on it, recheck the PAN, request a clear corrected document and contact IRD when the record remains unclear.

Fees and timelines

  • The reviewed public PAN-search and tax-clearance-search pages do not display a public lookup fee.
  • A normal lookup can be completed in a few minutes when the number and official service are available, but IRD does not publish one guaranteed response time for the page.
  • Portal maintenance, network problems, an unreadable source document, an incorrect PAN or a record issue can delay verification.
  • The lookup itself does not replace paid professional due diligence, a company/firm record, a sector licence, a corrected tax invoice or official confirmation from IRD when the result is disputed.
  • Do not pay an intermediary merely to use the public search. Contact the responsible IRD office through the official directory for an unresolved record question.

Common mistakes

  • Using a search-engine result, social-media bot or unofficial PAN lookup instead of the ird.gov.np page
  • Trying to search by name, mobile number or citizenship number through a public form that asks for the PAN itself
  • Typing one digit incorrectly or copying a number from a low-quality image
  • Treating a matching PAN as proof that every return is filed, every tax is paid or a tax-clearance certificate is genuine
  • Assuming a PAN lookup proves a company is active at OCR, a firm is current at its registration office or a sector licence is valid
  • Assuming the person presenting the PAN controls the taxpayer or is authorized to receive money
  • Accepting an old or cropped screenshot instead of repeating the official lookup
  • Editing a seller's PAN or name on an invoice yourself instead of requesting a corrected invoice
  • Publishing a PAN together with citizenship, signature, phone, bank account or other unnecessary personal data
  • Calling a person or business fraudulent solely because a temporary portal problem or input error produced no result

This guide covers verification, not registration

This page checks an already known PAN. Registering a new PAN, correcting a PAN card, downloading or replacing a certificate, changing a tax profile, registering or cancelling VAT, filing returns and obtaining tax clearance are separate user tasks already covered by other guides.

Safe official lookup sequence

  1. 1Read the PAN from the source document.
  2. 2Open the official ird.gov.np PAN Search.
  3. 3Enter the PAN exactly and select Search.
  4. 4Compare only the fields IRD displays.
  5. 5Record the lookup date and compared fields.
  6. 6Use the separate tax-clearance search for a certificate.
  7. 7Pause the dependent transaction when a material mismatch remains.
  8. 8Use the official IRD office directory for an unresolved record issue.

What each check does

CheckWhat it can supportWhat it does not automatically prove
PAN Number SearchAn IRD record corresponding to the entered PAN and the fields returnedFull tax compliance, company status, invoice authenticity or payment authority
VAT information shown by IRDThe VAT or registration information actually displayed for that taxpayerThat every VAT return is filed or every transaction qualifies for VAT credit
Tax Clearance SearchWhether the entered PAN, fiscal year and certificate number match IRD's separate resultFuture compliance or facts outside the searched certificate
Company or firm searchSeparate registration-office status when checked at the responsible authorityTax compliance or control of a payment account
Bank-account evidenceAccount-name information supplied through an appropriate verified processPAN validity, licence status or authority for every transaction

A matching PAN is one evidence point, not complete due diligence

Before a material payment or contract, separately verify the legal entity or firm, current sector licence, authorized signatory, invoice sequence and tax details, delivery evidence, contract terms and payment-account ownership as the situation requires. Do not state that IRD verified facts that its result did not display.

No result or a mismatch

Treat the result as an unresolved verification step, not instant proof of fraud.

  1. 1Compare every PAN digit with the clearest available source document.
  2. 2Remove accidental spaces and retry the official page later if the service appears unavailable.
  3. 3Ask the taxpayer or seller for a clear PAN card or corrected invoice.
  4. 4Compare the legal name rather than a shop nickname or social-media brand alone.
  5. 5Ask which IRD office manages the record when the taxpayer says the public result is incomplete.
  6. 6Use the official IRD contact or office directory for a material unresolved discrepancy.
  7. 7Do not edit another party's invoice and do not publish an accusation before completing the official check.

Vendor and invoice verification checklist

  1. PAN on the invoice matches the official lookup
  2. Legal taxpayer name matches
  3. VAT claim matches the information actually displayed or separately confirmed
  4. Invoice date, number, seller details, buyer details and taxable amounts are internally consistent
  5. Company or firm registration checked separately when material
  6. Sector licence checked separately when required
  7. Person negotiating or receiving payment is authorized
  8. Payment account belongs to the expected person or entity
  9. Goods, services, contract and delivery evidence agree
  10. Lookup date and supporting evidence retained according to privacy and accounting needs

What the reviewed IRD services confirm

The official PAN Number Search requests the PAN itself. IRD provides a separate Tax Clearance Search requiring PAN, fiscal year and certificate number, while registration, returns, VAT, excise and authenticated taxpayer services are handled through distinct IRD paths. This separation is why a PAN-search result must not be described as a complete compliance certificate.

Privacy and scam prevention

A public PAN lookup does not require a citizenship upload, OTP, taxpayer login, bank password or remote-access app. Do not post PAN together with a signature, citizenship image, mobile number, bank account or taxpayer-portal credentials. Use the minimum information needed for the legitimate verification purpose.

  6. 6Tax Clearance certificate भए छुट्टै official search मा PAN, fiscal year र certificate number राख्नुहोस्।

sector licence valid भएकोसम्बन्धित licensing authority
invoice वास्तविक भएकोinvoice details, transaction and seller evidence

Result
